TEXTBOOK – "The Six Elements Orthodontic Philosophy©™ Goals, Diagnosis, Classification, And Treatment"

The Six Elements Orthodontic Philosophy© (Dental Press 2024) is a distillation of information gained from more than fifty years of orthodontic research, teaching, and clinical practice. At its heart are treatment goals, methods for diagnosing, a new system of classification, and treatment strategies proven effective for achieving outcomes that promote the health, function, and appearance of patients. In this book, the authors, Dr. Will A. Andrews and Dr. Lawrence F. Andrews, unveil the Six Elements Orthodontic Philosophy in its entirety for the first time.

New, scientifically defensible definitions for optimal arches, jaw positions, chin prominence and occlusion are explained and presented in a logical way. A systematic, yet individualized, method for diagnosing is outlined in stepwise fashion along with efficient treatment regimens aimed at harmonizing relationships between the teeth, supporting tissues, jaws, temporomandibular joints, and the face. Simple biomechanical schemes for guiding teeth to the desired positions are described and beautifully illustrated. New concepts regarding jaw growth and growth modification are introduced as well as discourse on the role of orthognathic surgery, where applicable.

The content of this book is presented in a format conducive to learning and to clinical implementation. Each of the Six Elements of Orofacial Harmony©™ are defined along with the specific goals, landmarks, and referents used for diagnosing and classifying followed by the recommended strategies for treating. A discussion section in each chapter provides broader context for the clinical and conceptual relevance of each topic. In all, this book advances a comprehensive, cogent, paradigm-shifting orthodontic philosophy. It is intended for orthodontists, orthodontic residents, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and oral and maxillofacial surgery residents.
